By 2024, Danone SN Indonesia Publishes 50 International and National Scientific Publications, Encouraging Data-Based Nutrition and Health Solutions for Indonesia
Jakarta, December 23, 2024 – In the midst of Indonesia’s efforts to overcome health challenges such as stunting and anemia, scientific research is an important key to creating real solutions. Danone Specialized Nutrition (SN) Indonesia shows a real commitment by publishing 50 scientific publications in international and national scientific conferences and journals by 2024. The main research pillars that Danone SN Indonesia focuses on include publications related to stunting and anemia, digestive health and immunity, breastfeeding, adult nutrition, and digital health. This research not only makes a major contribution to science but also strengthens the efforts of the government and stakeholders in creating a positive impact on society. In the research, Danone SN Indonesia highlights several important health issues, such as stunting, which affects cognitive and future generations, anemia, which reduces productivity, and the importance of digestive health and immunity for long-term well-being.
Medical and Scientific Affairs Director of Danone Specialized Nutrition (SN) Indonesia, Dr. dr. Ray Wagiu Basrowi, MKK, FRSPH, explained that Danone SN Indonesia continues to encourage the transformation of public health by investing in innovative research in collaboration with various leading academic and medical institutions such as PKGM Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Department of Child Health Sciences of Universitas Airlangga, Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Faculty of Public Health of Universitas Indonesia, and Hasanuddin University.
“This collaboration aims to produce health solutions that are holistic and relevant to the needs of the Indonesian people, while accelerating the transformation of health services that are inclusive and adaptive to future challenges. The research results have been published in various conferences, such as those held by The Professional Society for Health Economic and Outcomes Research (ISPOR), and international and national scientific journals such as Heliyon, Nutrients, PGHN, The Open Public Health Journal, and Bali Medical Journal. With a scientific data-based approach, this research provides recommendations to improve the quality of public health, especially in addressing critical issues such as stunting, anemia, and digestive health. All research and publications produced by Danone SN Indonesia are rooted in science and based on real needs and health gaps that exist in society,” said Dr. Ray.
Danone SN Indonesia allocates its research to several main pillars that are relevant to health issues in Indonesia. The resulting publications focus on the issues of stunting and anemia, digestive health and immunity, breastfeeding for child health, nutrition in adults, and digital health. Each of these research areas becomes the focus to provide relevant and applicable data-based solutions to support the fulfillment of nutrition and improve the quality of life of the Indonesian people.
Technology-based Innovation for Sustainable Health
Innovation in health management is growing rapidly along with the advancement of digital technology. Digital platforms now play an important role in facilitating health monitoring and management, providing a significant impact in improving quality of life while reducing the risk of chronic diseases. One of the areas being researched by Danone SN Indonesia is how digital technology can be used to improve monitoring of children’s nutrition, especially in addressing the problems of stunting and anemia.
These studies show that the use of digital applications and other technologies enables more precise monitoring of nutritional adequacy and child development, and provides more personalized and data-driven recommendations. This technology provides easy access to relevant health information and supports efforts to improve community welfare. This is also a major concern for Danone SN Indonesia, which is committed to increasing health awareness through technology-based solutions, as part of a proactive strategy to support the provision of more effective and sustainable health services.
Towards a Healthier Generation of Indonesia
One of the main focuses of the research conducted by Danone SN Indonesia is the fulfillment of nutrition in the First 1000 Days of Life period, an important phase in child growth and development. This research highlights the role of growth milk in supporting the prevention of anemia, digestive disorders, and decreased immune system in children under five years old. Children in this phase are in dire need of adequate nutrition to support optimal physical and cognitive growth. Unfortunately, diets that do not comply with nutritional standards often lead to deficiencies in essential nutrients, which contribute to long-term health problems. Research shows that regular consumption of nutritionally fortified milk twice a day can help increase children’s height and weight, as well as improve digestive health and immunity. By ensuring proper nutrition, growth milk can support optimal child development.
Stunting is a major issue in Indonesia because it can have an impact on children’s future, such as decreased academic potential, increased risk of non-communicable diseases, high health expenses, and decreased productivity. It is explained in the research that one of the main factors causing stunting is low maternal nutrition literacy, including understanding of child feeding, selection of nutritious foods, and access to health services. To overcome this, Danone SN Indonesia seeks to improve maternal nutrition literacy through research and education. This effort is expected to support child development and help create a healthier and more productive generation.
“Danone SN Indonesia is committed to supporting sustainable health development in Indonesia through cross-sector collaboration and research-based solutions. With a focus on research and innovation, we aim to strengthen the role of science to create a long-term impact that improves the quality of life and well-being of Indonesian children, making them a generation ready to face the challenges of the future,” said Healthcare Nutrition Director Danone SN Indonesia, dr. Ashari Fitriyansyah.
