Strengthening Synergy and Collaboration, Head of Badan POM of the Republic of Indonesia Visits Danone SN Indonesia’s Factory in Sentul

Jakarta, December 3, 2024 – Head of the National Board of Drug and Food Control of the Republic of Indonesia or Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (BPOM) Republik Indonesia, Prof. dr. Taruna Ikrar M.Biomed, PhD, along with the first class high officials of BPOM RI, visited Danone Specialized Nutrition (Danone SN) factory in Sentul, West Java (02/12). This visit is intended to observe directly the supply chain, production process, and monitoring system in Danone SN Indonesia factory.

Furthermore, this visit also became a discussion event concerning the collaboration program initiated by Danone SN Indonesia to support the government’s initiatives. Several programs that were discussed include the MSME empowerment through the Orang Tua Angkat (Foster Parents, or OTA) program and the ‘Makan Bergizi Generasi Maju’ (Nutritious Meals for Advanced Generation) program which is a trial of well-balanced nutritious meal supply with fortified powdered milk conducted in Yogyakarta.

Lee Meng Thoong, the CEO of Danone SN Indonesia, warmly greeted the arrival of the BPOM officials. “We are very grateful for the attendance of the Head of BPOM along with his officials to visit and directly observe the facilities and processes of our productions that have become a part of the society for 70 years. All of the products in Danone SN Indonesia such as SGM Eksplor, Bebelac and Nutrilon Royal are 100% produced in Indonesia and have met the standards of the BPOM, as well as the halal certification from BPJPH or LPPOM MUI,” expressed Lee.

Through this visit, Danone SN Indonesia exhibited its commitment in presenting nutritious products that are safe, healthy, high-quality, hygienic, and halal. Each product goes through a research and development process as well as an integrated production system to ensure the best quality until it reaches the consumers’ hands.

The Head of Food and Drug Control Board Republic of Indonesia, Prof. dr. Taruna Ikrar, M.Biomed, PhD, explained how the global and national economy conditions currently need some real collaborations among various parties, among whom the industry actors and the government, “The current global economy condition is varied, with several countries experience improvement and deterioration. Indonesia’s [economic] growth itself is around 5.6%, while the global economic growth is around 2.5%. Therefore, Indonesia’s condition through Prabowo-Gibran’s Asa Cita is focused on food independence, renewable energy, downstream indsutry, and human resource development. We hope, Danone will be able to participate and contribute in supporting the government’s programs,” he stated.

Prof. dr. Taruna Ikrar, M.Biomed, PhD also hopes that business actors can produce quality products for the public. “Our visit today aims to observe the supply chain, manufacturing practices, and monitoring processes in Danone factory. Moreover, we also would like to improve collaborations in relation to the Makan Bergizi Gratis (Free Nutritious Meal) program and MSME assistance, given that in Indonesia, there are 64 millions MSMEs, yet only 60,000 of them have been registered,” he said.

In line with the Health mission in Danone Impact Journey, the company keeps making efforts to spread kindness through food and building a balanced and sustainable business growth model. Danone SN Indonesia also supports various sustainable initiatives, including Gerakan Bersama Cegah Stunting (Collective Movement to Prevent Stunting) and the nutritious meal trial program through ‘Nutritious Meals for Advanced Generation’ program for preschool, kindergarten, and elementary school children that was carried out on September to December 2024 in Yogyakarta. This program involves the distribution of nutritious meals completed with fortified milk powder with the unique combination of iron and vitamin C, to help absorb iron by double, education about balanced nutritions and Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat, or PHBS), a waste reduction program that promotes zero waste concept, as well as the measurement of socio-economic impacts on the society.

In operating our business, Danone SN Indonesia grows along with millions of partners and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) which become parts of the supply chain. Danone SN Indonesia has also been engaged in the empowerment of MSMEs through the halal certification assistance for more than 40 MSMEs and the support of the process of Marketing Authorization Number (BPOM RI MD) to 2 MSMEs in Yogyakarta through the Orang Tua Angkat (OTA) program. Additionally, the company has also conducted assistance for 90 MSMEs around the factory targeting 1,400 beneficiaries and DAMPING program which has provided advantages for more than 10 thousand entrepreneurs in Indonesia as well as 3,500 alumni from the intensive assistance classes.
