Taruna Ikrar M.Biomed, PhD, along with the first class high officials of BPOM RI, visited Danone Specialized Nutrition (Danone SN) factory in Sentul, West Java (02/12). Furthermore, this visit also became a discussion event concerning the collaboration program initiated by Danone SN Indonesia to support the government’s initiatives. Several programs that were discussed include the MSME empowerment through the Orang Tua Angkat (Foster Parents, or OTA) program and the ‘Makan Bergizi Generasi Maju’ (Nutritious Meals for Advanced Generation) program which is a trial of well-balanced nutritious meal supply with fortified powdered milk conducted in Yogyakarta. Lee Meng Thoong, the CEO of Danone SN Indonesia, warmly greeted the arrival of the BPOM officials. “We are very grateful for the attendance of the Head of BPOM along with his officials to visit and directly observe the facilities and processes of our productions that have become a part of the society for 70 years. All of the products in Danone SN Indonesia such as SGM Eksplor, Bebelac and Nutrilon Royal are 100% produced in Indonesia and have met the standards of the BPOM, as well as the halal certification from BPJPH or LPPOM MUI,” expressed Lee. Through this visit, Danone SN Indonesia exhibited its commitment in presenting nutritious products that are safe, healthy, high-quality, hygienic, and halal. Therefore, Indonesia’s condition through Prabowo-Gibran’s Asa Cita is focused on food independence, renewable energy, downstream indsutry, and human resource development. We hope, Danone will be able to participate and contribute in supporting the government’s programs,” he stated. Prof. dr. Taruna Ikrar, M.Biomed, PhD also hopes that business actors can produce quality products for the public. “Our visit today aims to observe the supply chain, manufacturing practices, and monitoring processes in Danone factory. Moreover, we also would like to improve collaborations in relation to the Makan Bergizi Gratis (Free Nutritious Meal) program and MSME assistance, given that in Indonesia, there are 64 millions MSMEs, yet only 60,000 of them have been registered,” he said. Jakarta, March 14, 2025 – Danone Indonesia continues to affirm its commitment to delivering high-quality halal products that benefit the broader public. In this blessed month of Ramadan, Danone Indonesia held an Iftar Gathering event with strategic partners, stakeholders, and representatives of Muslim communities. This event served as a platform to strengthen relationships and enhance collaboration to create positive impacts for society. The event, held in Jakarta on Friday, March 14, 2025, titled “Danone Indonesia’s Commitment to Providing Halal and Thayyib Products for a Healthier Indonesia,” also featured Dr. Ir. Haikal Hassan, SKOM., MMT., Head of the Halal Product Assurance Board or Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal (BPJPH), and Dr. H. Rahmat Hidayat, SE., MT, Secretary General of the Indonesian Mosque Council. Ramadan is a key factor driving significant growth in the halal economy. During this holy month, demand for halal products and services increases, especially in the food and beverage sector. According to the 2023/2024 State of the Global Islamic Economy Report (SGIER), Indonesia ranks second in the global halal food sector after Malaysia. This report highlights the importance of the halal food market in Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world. Commitment to Providing Quality Halal Products and Empowering Communities for Economic Growth Head of Halal Product Assurance Board, Dr. Ir. Ahmad Haikal Hasan, S.Kom., MMT., stated that halal certification is no longer strictly related to religion, but has evolved into a standard that adds value to products as consumer protection. Besides the commitment to halalness, BPJPH also appreciates Danone Indonesia’s initiatives to maximize societal benefits through empowerment programs. “Halal assurance is not merely a matter of religion or standardization, it is also a form of consumer protection. People have the right to receive products that are not only halal but also safe and of high quality. For me, one of the industry actors with a strong commitment to halalness in Indonesia is Danone. I see that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) around Danone factories are being facilitated by Danone Indonesia to obtain halal certificates, including receiving support in the certification process, packaging, and marketing. If all major industry actors followed Danone Indonesia’s example, it would be very beneficial. Currently, only around 2.1 million businesses are certified halal. With support from large companies, the acceleration of halal certification for SMEs can be more optimal,” Haikal Hassan said. The role of the private sector in driving economic growth is significant, especially through empowering SMEs to develop further and contribute to national economic improvement. Through the SME Support program, Danone Indonesia has reached over 5,000 micro and small business actors, with more than 800 SMEs facilitated in obtaining halal certification, strengthening their competitiveness in both national and global markets. Along with Haikal Hassan, Danone Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to providing halal, safe, and high-quality products to support a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. “At Danone Indonesia, applying halal standards is not just about compliance but also a core value in providing safe and trusted products for consumers,” […]
